Box Truck Crashes Into Telephone Pole, Splitting It In Half, In Norwalk

A box truck crashed into a telephone pole, splitting it in half, with the tension causing the adjacent pole to also split.

It happened around 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 in Norwalk on East Avenue, just north of Route 1.

While diverting traffic and clearing the hazard area, a transformer blew and wires were smoking. 

East Avenue was closed between Cannon Street and Route 1 and the residents on the pole side of the street were advised to stay in their homes.

The occupants of the truck appeared uninjured and Eversource crews arrived on scene within a few minutes to assess the situation.

Norwalk Police are investigating the cause of the accident
